In the Artist's own words:
Life Stories – More is More Within A Narrative Structure, a 35 year
survey of James Albertson's art; a combination of story telling in
drawing and painting through edgy and restless form.
SACRAMENTO, CA - The Center for Contemporary Art, Sacramento (CCAS)
presents an exhibition by nationally known artist James Albertson.
Albertson creates art work that extends past the constraints of
Modernism. This aggressively personal painting style earned him a
place in the historic "Bad Painting" exhibition at the New Museum in
New York City in 1978, and a National Endowment for the Arts grant in
1980 and 1983. Continuing his efforts to avoid the conventions of
"high art" his work has been shown in key exhibitions such as The
Impolite Figure, 1983; California A to Z, 1990; the Lighter Side of
Bay Area Figuration, 2000; Bizarre, 2002; and Hard Candy, 2004.
Originally from Wisconsin, Albertson grew up in Illinois and received
his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1966. He
moved to Oakland, California and received his MFA from the California
College of Arts and Crafts in 1968. In 1989 Albertson relocated to
Sacramento, where he currently instructs 2D studio art at Sierra
College and American River College while continuing his passion for
painting.
Albertson's art is in many collections, including the Crocker Art
Museum, Sacramento; the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown,
OH; the San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA; Yale University Museum,
New Haven, CT., and the di Rosa Collection in Napa, CA.
